You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;

Therefore God, Your God,

has anointed You With the oil of gladness

more than Your companions.” (Heb 1:9)

“Bad girls have more fun”

Perhaps you have heard this quote, I know I have.  In fact, I remember standing at a checkout counter when a clerk said this very thing to her friend next to her.  I kicked in by telling them that it was not true.  Yet, as I walked out of the store, I found myself thinking about it – seeing what a powerful lie this was.

In many ways – this is the foundation of satan’s lies.  It was the original lie that he used on Eve in the Garden.  Satan sought to convince Eve that God’s way is a bummer and that God was seeking to keep them back from something that would be good and fulfilling.  At the same time, he pictured the sin he was tempting her with as “fun”, “better” and “fulfilling”.  But hear this clearly – that is a lie!  You need to see this…satan was lying – sin is not more fun!

Life itself should be able to convince us of this.  If we would just open our eyes to look at people’s lives who traffic in the temptations that satan throws our way – we would see misery, pain, defeat and depression.  Sin’s rewards are far from “more fun”.

God tells us where real joy is found Consider the picture of Christ put before us in the verse above.  It tells us that because He loved what was right and hated what was wrong – He had more joy than anyone around Him!  Read that last sentence again.  The place of real joy, the place of “more fun” – is in loving what is right and hating what is wrong.  Joy, real joy – is found in loving and doing what is right!  Do you believe this?  You should, God does not lie!

So I guess we could say:

Good girls have more fun!” and we could add “Good boys have more fun, too”.

Here is my challenge – prove it!  This week, I call you to prove that this is true.  Seek what is good, do what is right…and discover that this is where joy is found!

Jim
