"Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah"(Psa 62:8)
Right now – God can be your refuge!
A refuge is a secure and safe place. Imagine what it would be like in the days that David wrote this Psalm. Battles would take place out in the open plain. On the battlefield, fear was constant. Yet, if and when you could retreat to your strong tower – you would be safe. Now it is true that in those days that a strong tower could be overcome as well…but that is where this gets even better. God here says He will be our strong tower – and very simply – He cannot be overcome. God is faithful and able – every single day! Right now, God can be your refuge! But how?
First – note who this is for “you people”.
In simple terms, this is a promise that is made to the people of God. This is not a promise that someone who is not a Christian can avail themselves of – they have not access to God. If that is you today, I appeal to you to surrender your life to Christ. But if you are a Christian, this is possible for you.
Second – the call is to Trust in Him.
To reply on, believe in, to have confidence in the Lord. One of satan’s great weapons against our soul is fear. Yet God calls us to trust in Him. In Eph 6, He likens it to a shield of faith that would quench and stop all the fiery darts of fear from the enemy.
Note with me when this tells us to trust God…at all times. There is the problem that many of us have. We trust God some of the time. We trust when we understand what He is doing, when we can see where things are going or we know why things are happening as they are. But this is not the trust God calls us to. God calls us to trust Him – all the time. God calls you to trust Him right now! Even when, especially when, you don’t understand what is happening. Prov 3:5-6
Thirdly, pour out your heart to Him – pray!
The Bible calls us, commands us, to cast all our cares on Him (1 Pet 5:7). We have been given a marvelous place where we can come and seek His face – and tell Him everything on our heart, all our fears. God can be in this sense, your Best Friend and Confidant. One of the keys here is honesty. For some reason - in approaching God - many people put on their “religious” face - and are never honest with Him. Yet such lack of honesty does not let the Lord deal with your heart, and robs you of the security you could find in Him. Today, pour out your heart before Him, Today, even now – I call you to cast all your cares on Him!
This place of finding your refuge in God is available. You can trust the Lord at all times. If you are in a situation right now, that you are not trusting in the Lord – then, Christian, you are living beneath the privileges of being one of God’s kids. If you are not trusting in the Lord, it is like walking out of that strong tower and allowing the enemy to fire his darts at you. You are open to attack! How I call you to find, discover and stay in God’s refuge today!
(Phil 4:6 7) "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Jim
