“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
(Heb 3:15)
Do you want everything that God has for you? I know I do. If so, then this incredible verse gives you three keys to having all that God has for you…today.
First – Today, be fully where you are.
The average person spends way too much time in places where they are not.
Many spend countless hours in yesterday. Thinking through decisions, failures, regrets – things they cannot change or undo. Yet, in their mind they relive these events over and over – wishing they could change what they cannot. You can’t change yesterday…you cannot go back.
Many spend countless hours in tomorrow. Living in a fantasy world of what might be….and yet most often won’t be. Most of the time spent in such thinking is unfruitful – for our foreknowledge of the future – is always lacking. God does not call us to live in tomorrow…but today.
They key – today – is: Be all here. Forget the past, leave the future in God’s hands and seek to live today to the fullest with God.
Read that last sentence again…and think about it. Today, be fully here.
Second – Listen to God, today!
I love the way God puts it here in Heb 3:15. There is no question or doubt to whether God would speak to you today….He is speaking – the only question is: Are you listening? The question today is will you hear His voice? To have all that God wants for you today…you need to listen to Him, to His guidance. Today, God is speaking in His Word, the Bible. Today, God is working by His Spirit to lead you. Today…will you hear His voice?
Third – Obey God’s voice – don’t resist Him.
Or as our text says – don’t harden your heart. The things that can harden our heart are many. The verses around our verse list issues that harden our hearts – things like sin, others voices, fear, lack of faith in God and more. Yet, I don’t want to focus on what hardens our heart – instead I simply want to challenge you – don’t! Listen for God and obey. Follow His call for your life today. Don’t mourn the past failures that you cannot change – simply focus today on obeying Him. Today, simply obey God’s guidance for today.
Three simple keys. It is so simple and quite freeing if you will hear it. We often try to make things too complicated. God calls us to a wonderful simplicity. They key to having all that God has for you – is: Today… listen and obey.
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
(Heb 3:15)
Jim
