Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity],
because the days are evil. (Eph 5:15-16, Amplified)
“An ostrich with its head in the sand is just as blind to opportunity as to disaster.”
Perhaps that is an odd statement…yet it is one that is so very true.
Sometimes the trials, troubles and just busyness of life can cause you to want to hide – to in a sense crawl back into bed and hide under the pillow. Sometimes we do that very thing - literally! Yet many other times we do this same sort of thing – yet in almost an unnoticeable way. We go through our days, doing the basics…yet hiding from life and the opportunities God is placing before us.
Can I encourage you with this thought – the big burdens are not ours. We spend more time thinking and worrying about things in the world, that we have no opportunity to change or affect. Yet, God is placing opportunities before us that are things we can do.
John Wesley said it this way:
“He who governed the world before I was born shall take care of it likewise when I am dead. My part is to improve the present moment.”
Yet it gets better. Eph 2:10 tells us that God has preceded you today, before you ever got up, God prepared good works…opportunities for you to make a difference. All you have to do is walk in them. You don’t have to create the opportunities – you just have to seize the ones that God puts before you. Wow.
So what are you doing with the opportunities God is placing before you, today? Will you seize them? Will you even see them? Again the problem is that the complexity of life sometimes cause us to be like the proverbial ostrich with its head in the sand – not paying attention, not looking…but hiding. I plead with you today to not live in such a manner! To be wise and make the most of every opportunity God puts before you today for doing good.
Live purposefully and worthily and accurately,
not as the unwise and witless, but as wise,
making the very most of the time,
because the days are evil. (Eph 5:15-16, Amplified)
