Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man

And makes flesh his strength,

Whose heart departs from the Lord. (Je 17:5)

Today – what are you trusting in?

If you are trusting in man – you are cursed.  That is what the Lord Himself wants to tell us, it is what He is saying in the verse above.  God wants you to know that if your trust is in man or the things of man – it is as if you are cursed.

Webster tells us that a curse is “something that brings evil, harm or misfortune”.   What brings this curse?  It is not God that is cursing…it us our false trust – trusting in something that will fail, won’t work and will let us down.

If today you are trusting in man – you are destined for misfortune.

Men’s systems fail.   If today your hope is in government, politics or organizations – then your trust is misplaced.   All that we do is touched with our weakness – and will fail.

Men fail, people change.  Even the best of people are inconsistent.  All are subject to weakness and mood swings.   Even our own heart can testify that we ourselves change – we have good days and bad days.  Trust in man is folly.

What makes this altogether worse – is we have something trustworthy. To invest our trust in man – is to depart from God, who should be our trust.  That is what it tells us in our verse – to trust in man, is to have our heart depart from the Lord.  Wow, what folly!

Perhaps, obviously, there is a better option…

If you are trusting in God today, you are blessed.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

And whose hope is the Lord. (Je 17:7)

Today, God is worthy of your trust and dependence. Today, we have a God who is consistent, faithful and unchanging.   He and He alone qualifies for our trust.

Today, can I just encourage you – trust God!

 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;

Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. (Mal 3:6)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Heb 13:8)

As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven;

He is a shield to all who trust in Him. (2 Sa 22:31)

Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him;

God is a refuge for us. Selah (Ps 62:8)
