“Therefore know that the Lord your God,

He is God, the faithful God…(Deut 7:9)

If we are faithless, He remains faithful;

He cannot deny Himself. (2Tim 2:13)

God is faithful.

What a wonderful truth to consider this day – God is truly faithful.   The word faithful means something that is loyal, constant, steadfast, firm in allegiance, solid, trustworthy and more.   God is faithful – always faithful!

Men and women are not always faithful.   When we read 2Timothy above, and we read “If we are faithless”….In find myself thinking “IF”?  It is not an “IF”, it is a “when”!  Every single one of us knows what it is to be unfaithful.  We have good days and bad days.  Times we are on top of the cares and responsibilities that we have…and times we fail in those.   God describes mankind’s faithfulness well in Hosea 6:4:

For your faithfulness is like a morning cloud,

And like the early dew it goes away.

Men and women can be consistently unfaithful.  In truth, this is what 2Tim above is really talking about, not momentary a unfaithfulness – but a turning, a pulling away from God.   Sadly, such things happen.  We probably all know those who were faithful for a period of time in seeking and serving God….and then became unfaithful.

Simply – men and women are not trustworthy…none are faithful.

God is faithful.   When and where men fail – God cannot and will not.

If we are faithless, He remains faithful;

He cannot deny Himself.

God’s very nature is perfect, pure and thus – faithful.  He cannot be anything buy faithful – it is essential to His very person and character.  It is not just that He “would not”, but that He “cannot deny Himself”.  Faithful is who He is.

Consider how amazing and good this is:

  • God never has an off day
  • God never has a bad day
  • God is never moody
  • God never takes a break from being God
  • God never says “whoops”
  • God is faithful…all the time!

Maybe it is just me – but sometimes this reality of God’s faithfulness really grabs me.  We live in a world…where nothing else is faithful.  It is normal for things to fail, expected for people to mess up, and moods and feelings cloud so much of our lives.  Occasionally it almost overwhelms me to simply stop and consider how wonderful it is that God is entirely faithful.

Today,  I ask you to consider God’s faithfulness.  You and I have the wonderful privilege held before us – of putting our trust in God…who is always faithful!

“Therefore know that the Lord your God,

He is God, the faithful God…(Deut 7:9)

Jim
