O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself;

It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

O Lord, correct me… (Je 10:23-24)

Who is directing your life?

  • To direct speak of one who is in a place of authority in a life.  It speaks of one who gives commands or orders, who administers or manages.
  • To direct speaks of the one who guides a life on its course.

So I ask the question again: Who is guiding it right now?  The answer to that question can come in many flavors.  For many they are seeking to direct their own life.  For others it is parents, spouses, bosses, friends or even just the world.

Yet, we are not able.  One of the great keys to the life God has for us, is to come to the admission that Jeremiah articulates here – we are not able to do this.

We don’t know the right way.  Our understanding is limited and often skewed.  To know what God has for us…none of us do.  Some press themselves into things God does not have for them, and others pull back from things God is seeking to do.  Our understanding of all God has for our lives – is inadequate.

O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself

We don’t know how to get there.  If we even knew what God has for us, which we don’t, but if we did – we would not know how to get there.  We are not able to “give ourselves” directions to get to the things God has before us.

It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

Today…do you see you complete inadequacy and inability to direct your own life?   Coming to such a place is needed.  If you are here, wonderful!  In a place of realizing your own limitations, what are we to do?  The answer – look to God!

Seek for God to direct your life!

He and He alone is able to direct your life right.  He knows all He has for you and He knows the path He has you to take.  He is concerned, interested and seeking to direct your life.

Today – I call you to trust Him to direct your life.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths. (Pr 3:5-6)

Today – I call you to seek that He would actively direct you.  He does so in His amazing discipline, His amazing consistent correction.   May you pray what Jeremiah prays – “O Lord, correct me”…direct me…

O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself;

It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

O Lord, correct me… (Je 10:23-24)
