Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. (Acts 11:12)
Amazing things were happening in history and in the life of Peter! As you read Acts 10-11 it is both wonderful and wild to watch. God’s work in the church was unfolding, the first gentile was about to be saved. Peter is involved in huge things and his life is changing drastically. Yet, Peter understood so little of the big picture.
The question for you is this: How did he do it? How did Peter know what to do and how did he be a part of what God was doing? Simple answer, the Spirit guided him!
Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. (Acts 11:12)
The Spirit guiding us is exactly what Jesus promised us:
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come,
He will guide you…. (John 16:13)
The Holy Spirit guided! This is the truth and the wonderful thing I want to hold before you today. Yet, understand that the Spirit did not sit down with Peter and explain to him what was happening, why it was happening, where it was going and how long it would take. His guidance was simple, direct and for that moment. It is a good picture of how He continues to guide us today.
The question I have for you is this: Are you listening? Christian, are you listening and following the guidance of the Spirit in your life? Again, understand, He does not explain to you all the questions that we think we want answered: Why, when, where, how, how come, etc. Such answers would not be helpful but instead would likely bring confusion, pride, fear or more. Instead, God promises us that the Spirit will guide us…day by day, moment by moment. As you read the book of Acts, it is exactly what you see.
So the question for you and the question for me is a far more simple one. God has given us the Spirit to guide us. Are we listening? Are we following His guidance, even in the face of our doubts and fears?
Today, I want you to know God is continuing to move history forward in His amazing plan. Today, the work of God is continuing to unfold in His church. Like Peter, there are things happening that we will only understand later…and some only in heaven. Yet, God is working. The question is…are you listening?
Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. (Acts 11:12)
