The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood,
And the Lord sits as King forever. (Ps 29:10)
God is on His throne! Today, this very moment, God is sovereignly reigning over all that is in this world.
God reigned at the flood. At the most calamitous time in human history to this point in time, the flood of Genesis 6, God reigned. Nothing mankind has gone through since the flood comes close to the calamity that destroyed every living thing outside the Ark. The key again – God was over that, He was working His sovereign purpose.
God is reigning now. God was sovereignly reigning then…and He is King over all now and forevermore as well. He always will be. Nothing that happens in our world can rock this or jeopardize this.
Consider the things in our world from the financial fears and woes, to the sickness, troubles, trials and more. As we look at the international scene with North Korea and Iran. As we look at our national turmoil that troubles so man. As we look at all these….understand – God is on His throne. Nothing has changed that. He is ordering and leading history to its great end. He is good, and He is in charge. Does that not do something for you? Does that not give you confidence.
Today – I call you to recognize God’s reign, that He is on His throne and do two things.
First – give Him glory for who He is. The beginning of this Psalm reads it like this:
Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones,
Give unto the Lord glory and strength.
Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. (Ps 29:1-2)
Today, I urge you to give Him glory, honor Him for who He is - that He is God and over all. Today, I call you to worship Him, Him who is on His throne…and to do so in the beauty of holiness!
Second – Gain strength and peace from His reign. The verses that close this Psalm, that immediately follow the declaration of His reign say it like this:
The Lord will give strength to His people;
The Lord will bless His people with peace. (Ps 29:11)
In the midst of chaos and confusion that is in this world, God’s people who see that He is on His throne can gain and have strength and peace. Today, I call you to be strengthened by the Sovereign God and have peace in Him.
Today – God is on His Throne!
Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood,
And the Lord sits as King forever.
The Lord will give strength to His people;
The Lord will bless His people with peace.
(Ps 29:2, 10-11)
