"Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming; in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning; lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.

And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!" (Mark 13:35-37)

Are you ready?  What if Jesus returned today?   If Jesus were to return, even before you finished reading this e-mail…are you ready?

Friday night, at Sunset – the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah begins,  the Jewish New Year.  It begins with the feast of Trumpets.  There are seven main Jewish Feasts – and interestingly they are all pictures of the work of Jesus.

  • The first three take place during Passover – and were all perfectly fulfilled in Jesus’ death and resurrection
  • The fourth was Pentecost – and was fulfilled, or begun on the Pentecost when the Spirit was poured out on the church (Acts 2)
  • The last three picture the second coming of Jesus.  Again – Friday night is the first one – the feast of trumpets – a picture of that day when Jesus returns for us:

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,

with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.

And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up

together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

And thus we shall always be with the Lord. (1 Th 4:16-17)

The Greek work translated “caught up” is where we get the term rapture from.   The rapture is the term that describes Jesus returning for His church…for us and He is going to do that.  When He does…we will always be with the Lord!  From that point forward, we will know His presence always!

Consider this picture.  As the calendar roles forward – holidays come and go.…Rosh Hashanah will come.  In a similar way – God’s divine calendar is moving forward.  Soon, maybe even today, that page in the calendar in God’s heart will flip…and the trumpet will blow…and we will be with the Lord in the air.  It really could happen today!  Do you really believe that?  It is true!

So again – my question – are you ready?  Jesus prophesied that many, most would not be.  He also told us that no one would know the day or the hour.  His counsel to us is that we live ready – to watch and pray…and be ready at all times.

Having such a perspective will actually help you to live today, even if His return does not take place today (although it could!)

Beloved, now we are children of God;

and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be,

but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him,

for we shall see Him as He is.

And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself,

just as He is pure. (1 John 3:2-3)

Today – I simply want to challenge you to be ready – He could come any time! He could come today…watch and be ready!

"Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming; in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning; lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.

And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!" (Mark 13:35-37)
