He knows the way that I take;

When He has tested me,

I shall come forth as gold.

(Job 23:10)

Driving in the dark with no lights on – is scary!

Yet – sometimes – that is how we feel in life.  We feel we are quickly moving along – yet we don’t know where we are…or where we are going.  Can I tell you something scary….we honestly don’t!   If you think you understand your life – the course you are on, you are probably wrong J.

A man’s steps are of the Lord; How then can a man understand his own way? (Proverbs 20:24)

O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. (Jeremiah 10:23)

The life God has for us to live…is by faith and not by sight.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

Life is like driving without lights on.   We cannot trust in our sight, because we don’t have a good lock on what God is doing.  God is not calling us to “understand” what is happening…but to trust in Him.

Consider Job’s example

For Job was life was careening down a crazy and dark course that for him is very confusing.   In much of the book of Job, he helps us to understand that he is confused.  Yet, at the same moment he declares his confidence in God.  It is to this statement of trust I want to draw you.

He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold. (Job 23:10)

God knows what we don’t know.  God sees what we don’t see.

He knows the way that I take

We may feel like we are driving without lights on…but to God – the path, course and purpose is clear.   He knows our path.  It is important that we know this.  Maybe it would be good for you to even verbally admit the same, right now – He knows your path.

God has a purpose in the path.

When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.

We can and should have confidence that He is and that He will work good things in our life.  God does allow us on some crazy roads in this dark course we call life…but they have a purpose…a good purpose – coming out of them “as gold”.   No matter where you are today on this road of life…if you are a Christian, there is a marvelous confidence that God is at work for good.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

The faith is for us to hold onto.

That is the confidence we can have…even when we don’t understand how, what or why.  If we could understand what He is doing…then it would not be faith– it would be sight!  It is in this place where you don’t see…you can have faith – trusting Him!

You can have peace … while driving in the dark! Do you?  Will you?

He knows the way that I take;

When He has tested me,

I shall come forth as gold. (Job 23:10)
