it is impossible
for God to lie…
(Hebrews 6:18)
What is a lie? The dictionary definition is: a deception in the form of an untruthful statement, especially with the intention to deceive.
Sadly, although the definition helps us to be specific as to what a lie is…we all know what lies are by experience. We know the damage that lies bring.
Charles Spurgeon said it this way: Words are the means of communication and thus the foundation and building blocks for our relationships. If words are the foundation for our relationships, lies destroy and break down those relationships.
Perhaps it is no surprise then that satan is called “the father of lies” (John 8:44)
Can I tell you some really good news? God doesn’t lie. In a world and a time that lies are so abundant…hear this again – God does not lie! He cannot! It is outside His nature!
it is impossible for God to lie…(Heb 6:18)
Take a moment and consider this great truth and let it just soak into your heart and mind. We have One that we can be absolutely confident in, One that cannot lie…and that One, is God.
How should this truth affect us?
One - it is meant to encourage us.
that…it is impossible for God to lie,
we might have strong consolation,
who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
Hebrews 6:18
Notice, God wants you to be consoled in this, to be comforted. Yet, not just comforted – but strongly comforted! There is a strength and a firmness that can and should grip you in this. Today, God wants you to be strongly encouraged by the fact that He cannot lie. Are you? If not, I encourage you to receive strength from this today. God can not, is not and will never lie to you. What He says…you can trust implicitly.
Two – it should cause us to trust in Him.
that…it is impossible for God to lie,
we might have strong consolation,
who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
Hebrews 6:18
The amplified Bible says it this way: “to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before us.” In a world that is so filled with untruths and untrustworthy promises – we should find ourselves leaning more and more on God. We should put our hope in the One who does not and cannot lie. We should find ourselves trusting Him more. Are you doing this today? Can I encourage you in this murky world we live in – to flee to Him and find refuge for your soul.
Today…I just want to encourage you – strongly – with the wonder and great truth that we have a God who does not and cannot lie.
He meant what He said, and said what He meant. He did all that He has told us and will do all that He promised us. God doesn't lie.
Hebrews 6:17-18 (in the Amplified Bible)
Accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened (mediated) with an oath.
This was so that, by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false or deceive us, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before [us].
