I will praise You, for I am fearfully and

wonderfully made;

Marvelous are Your works,

And that my soul knows very well.

(Psalm 139:14)

God is your Maker and your Designer.

Do you believe this?  How would it effect you if you really believed this?   Consider the verses connected to the one above.

For You formed my inward parts;

You covered me in my mother’s womb.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Marvelous are Your works,

And that my soul knows very well.

My frame was not hidden from You,

When I was made in secret,

And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.

And in Your book they all were written,

The days fashioned for me,

When as yet there were none of them.

 (Psalm 139:13–16)

God truly is your Make and Designer.  So let me ask it again: how would it effect your life if you really believed this?   We live in a world that makes literally millions of dollars off of people’s dissatisfaction with how they were made by God.  Yet the endless pursuit of such changes has not helped those who pursue it.  How radically different we would look and be in this world if we believed and lived this.

If we believed this, we would Accept how we were created.   We would believe that our height, eye color, hair color, voice and more were not accidental nor a mistake.  We would believe we were made like this on purpose and accept it as a gift from God.   Imagine if you painted a work of art for someone as a gift.  When you gave it to them, they began cutting it with scissors, painting over sections and gripping over what they saw….yet this is exactly how many receive who they are from God.

If we believed this, we would marvel at what God has done.  So many are so focused on what they are not and what they don’t have – that they miss the wonder of what God has done in them.    God calls us to see how He has made us, not for pride’s sake, but to marvel at what He has done.  David says it so forcefully that he tells us that his soul knows this well.

Marvelous are Your works,

And that my soul knows very well.

If we believed this, we would look for what God created us for.   In the words of the Book of Esther – we were made “for such a time as this”.   Who we are is on purpose and it has a plan.   If we believed this, I mean really believed this, we would accept who we are and look for what it is that God has us here for.

If we believed this, we would worship God for His work.   If worship is the right expression, and it is, then the opposite expression would be complaining.   Yet so many Christians do this very thing, looking at what God did in creating them…and joining the world in a dissatisfied whine.  David shows us the right response – I will praise You….   Can I call you to do this very thing…to worship God for how He made you.  He is your Designer and Maker!

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Marvelous are Your works,

And that my soul knows very well.

(Psalm 139:14)
