Rebuke is more effective for a wise man

Than a hundred blows on a fool.

(Proverbs 17:10)

How are the spankings going?

One of the distinctive marks of being a true Christian is to be disciplined by God.

For whom the LORD loves He chastens,

And scourges every son whom He receives.”

If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

 (Hebrews 12:6–8)

Said simply – every Christian gets disciplined (and needs disciplined by God J ).

If you know nothing of this, then you need to be saved.  I would call you even now into a relationship with God through Christ Jesus.

Yet, if you do know God’s discipline, if you don know what it is for God to be the wonderful Father that He is and correct His kids – then again, I have a question for you:

How are the spankings going?

If you are a Christian, God is disciplining you…so how are you responding to God’s faithful and consistent discipline?

A wise person responds quickly to God’s correction!

Rebuke is more effective for a wise man…

A “word of rebuke” is able to correct wrong deeds, attitudes and thoughts. The honest admission from every Christian is that such rebukes are necessary from God…and wonderful.  We need a lot of help to keep on the straight and right path God has for us.  God loves us enough to bring correction to do this very thing. How good it would be if you were one that was quick to respond and receive correction from God.  Truly correction received as such is “effective”.

A foolish person is slow to respond to God’s correction.

Rebuke is more effective for a wise man

Than a hundred blows on a fool.

For the one being foolish, discipline progresses past a rebuke and has escalated to blows,  even that of one hundred blows!   Yet…in such a one that is behaving so foolishly – those one hundred blows are less effective than the single rebuke to the one who is wise.  O the ugly folly of being one that resists God’s correction.

Know this…our God is a faithful Father, and one that is committed to the wellbeing of His kids – He never throws in the towel in disciplining us (Read Levities 26)  God never gives up on us. (Phil 1:6).  God will not give u disciplining us…so wise is the Christian who grows good at being quick to be corrected.

So one last time, Christian, the question is not “IF” you are being disciplined by God…but how are you responding to God’s faithful correction.   I encourage you to be the one that turns and learns at God’s gentle rebukes, before more serious discipline is required.

Rebuke is more effective for a wise man

Than a hundred blows on a fool.

(Proverbs 17:10)
