Worry Free.jpg

In the multitude of

my anxieties within me,

Your comforts

delight my soul.

(Psalm 94:19)

God calls us to be “worry free”

Be anxious for nothing…(Philippians 4:6-7)

Now I have a question for you…and be honest: When you hear God call you not to be worried, how does it hit you?

  • Some scoff, considering such words impractical.
  • Some feel guilty, you were worried before, but now you are worried about worrying.
  • Some ignore it – thinking it would be nice, but it does not work for them.

Yet, hear me clearly – what God calls for here, to be anxious for nothing, is possible…and it is possible for you!

First – consider the honesty of the Bible.  God knows we have many things that worry us.

In the multitude of my anxieties within me

I have a sense that most of you could honestly admit that this is true – deep inside our hearts – we have a multitude of worries.

Second – see what is possible.

Your comforts delight my soul.

It is exactly in the area that we are worried that we can discover the incredible comfort of God, comfort that brings delight.  The benefit of admitting and seeing where you are worried is that you have discovered a place where you can discover God’s comfort and delight in ways that words fail to describe.

Three – how to make this exchange.

God calls us to discover our worried and give them to God, to surrender them to the Lord in prayer!

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything pray

 (Philippians 4:6-7)

casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

 (1 Peter 5:7)

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you

(Psalm 55:22)

Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

(Psalm 56:3)

Have you ever played the game of “hot potato”? Hot potato involves players gathering in a circle and tossing a small object such as a beanbag or tennis ball to each other while music plays. The player who is holding the "hot potato" when the music stops is out. Play continues until only one player is left. The game is fast-paced as the player seeks to get ride of the “hot potato” as quick as he gets it.

This is exactly what God wants you to do with your worries.   The reality is that there are a lot of things that worry us.   If the command in the Bible not to worry meant we were never to be hit with worry – most of us would admit we are failures.  But, if God means that as soon as a worry hits us – we toss it to Him – then it is not only possible, but also amazing.

Today, I want to challenge you to begin to learn to play “hot potato” with your worries.   As quick, as often and as many worries that come to you – toss them to Him.  Discover that in the “multitude of worries” that are yours, you can discover His comfort which is delightful.

In the multitude of

my anxieties within me,

Your comforts

delight my soul.

(Psalm 94:19)
