your Father knows
the things you have need of
before you ask Him.
(Matthew 6:8)
I hate going to the doctor…. I admit it.
The truth is that such a feeling is not unique, I know. Now, please don’t misunderstand me. If you are in the medical profession, please know that I appreciate you and your task so much. Truly I believe our medical knowledge is a gift from God and to be honored. Honestly, my problem with doctors - is not them…but me. Let me explain.
The nagging fear I have every time I go to the doctor is that of miss and/or missed diagnosis. Here is what happens in my mind.
I fear I am going to make too much out of a small or inconsequential problem. I fear that my description of my symptoms will cause the doctor to think more is wrong with me than really is.
On the other hand, I fear leaving details out, not mentioning something that could be a key to rightly diagnosing my condition.
These fears plague me every time I sit before a doctor, fearing my wrong perceptions or out of kilter understandings are going to lead him or her to a wrong understanding of where I am. Now, such a wrong diagnosis is not really the doctor’s fault – but mine, because they are dependant partly on my information. Honestly, these fears are one of the main reasons that I hate going to the doctor.
Yet, consider the amazing contrast we have with God.
your Father knows
the things you have need of
before you ask Him.
God is not dependant on my assessment of myself or my situation. God already knows me and every thing about me, around me and that concerns me – perfectly. We are called to pray to God and tell Him all that concerns us – yet in those times of prayer, God is not dependant on us for information or help in diagnosing our need. For me, this is a huge “wow”. For me, this makes me feel so much at ease in presenting myself before the Lord today. To present myself before God is such a safe and perfect place without the fear of being misdiagnosed.
I might misdiagnose my needs and situation.
God knows me perfectly and what I need and where I am.
I might self medicate the wrong prescription for where I am.
God always acts perfectly, and prescribes exactly what I need, at exactly the right time, and in exactly the right dose.
God never guesses
God never has just an “educated guess”
God never makes a mistake
God never misses anything
Our Heavenly Father is Amazing
With this reality before us, how good and right it is for us to simply present ourselves afresh to God, daily. To surrender to His perfect knowledge, ways, timing and ability is perfect. God calls us to this is so many ways through His Word – to submit to Him – us as the clay and He as the Potter. To entrust ourselves to His care – us as the branch of the vine, He as the Gardener.
In invite you today, to submit and surrender yourself to God, knowing that He knows you perfectly.
your Father knows
the things you have need of
before you ask Him.
(Matthew 6:8)
